Welcome to Litcham High School
Litcham High School is an 11-16 school serving a large rural community. Most of our students join us from the nine primary schools within the Litcham Learning Community – Beeston, Brisley, Great Massingham, Litcham, Weasenham, (Beetley) St Mary’s, Great Dunham, Harpley and Mileham – but every year we also welcome students from further afield. Working closely with our partner primary schools, we aim to ensure a smooth transition to the high school for all the children who join us.
We are a high-performing school: in 2011, 26% of all GCSE grades were at A* or A, a figure well above the national and county average. We are also proud to be a genuine comprehensive school. So, we want all our students to achieve their academic potential whatever their ability, which means providing extra help for those students for whom academic success does not come easily.
Ours is a small school, of some 560 students and is consistently over-subscribed. Our size enables us to get to know our students very well and to focus on the individual. Nobody disappears under the radar! Highly effective pastoral care from our tutors and student support team is a particular feature of the school. The remarkably high percentage of our students who move on to further education or training at 16 reflects the effective guidance they receive.
Our aim is to see all our students acquire the skills and knowledge, the maturity and confidence they need to move successfully into appropriate further education, higher education and employment. The opportunities they enjoy to engage in sport, music, drama and many other extra-curricular activities will help them develop the team and communication skills, the leadership qualities and the breadth of experience they will need to make the transition into adult life.
Our students are fond of their school and very loyal. Visitors frequently comment on their politeness and good nature. The staff are extraordinarily hard-working and committed to bringing out the best in our young people. Together, they are the vital ingredients of what makes this such a happy and successful school.
